Miriam Pico is a highly acclaimed independent singer/songwriter who lives in Traverse City, Michigan. A native of Puerto Rico, she has lived in Northern Michigan, U.S.A. since 1987 and has been performing professionally since she was eleven years old. She has recorded two albums; “City Dreams” released in May 2005, which contains 14 of her original songs, as well as “Pico & Chown; S’bout Time”, a jazz collaboration with pianist, David Chown, released in November, 2009. She is currently creating her newest CD, a new collection of original songs entitled “I Am Myself” which will be released in the spring of 2010.
In 2005, Miriam and her band won 1ST PLACE in WKLT’s “Northern Michigan Rocks” Battle of the Bands, and she released her first CD (City Dreams) which has sold over 1,200 copies worldwide. In 2006, Miriam was voted BEST SOLO PERFORMER by the readers of The Northern Express. In 2007 she won 1st PLACE in a nation-wide talent competition through Kawai for her rendition of “Someone To Watch Over Me”, on which David Chown played the accompaniment. In 2008, Miriam was a celebrity competitor in a local dancing/fundraising competition called Swingshift and the Stars. She and her dance partner, Jody Brown, raised over $4,000 for the Women’s Resource Center. In 2009, Miriam launched her “Musician With a Mission” ministry, collecting toiletries and canned goods at all of her shows as part of what she calls “Sing For Their Supper”.
